Canon IP8750 printer

My Epson 1500W printer failed last year, leaving me, as always, with a load of ink which I can no longer use. Having had two Epson printers I decided to change horses and get a Canon IP8750. So far I’m finding it a good printer. My main gripe is that paper sizes are somewhat idiosyncratic. It’s very much geared to Canon papers so the sizes offered depend on the paper type selected. The inks are, of course, exorbitantly expensive, but I have found the compatible inks from Ink Express to be very good and reasonably priced. This is the same company that I got the refillable cartridges from for my Epson printer. The compatible Canon cartridges work out at about £3 each so at the moment I won’t explore the refillable option, although it is available. The ink line-up is rather unusual. In addition the the standard CMYK there is a light gray and and a pigment black (the other inks are dye based). The pigment black is only used for text, not images (how does it know?). Although it doesn’t have any other colours the images look at least as good as on the 1500W. The difference between the compatible inks and the Canon inks which came with the printer is very small and only really noticeable with 2 prints side-by side. Prints straight out of the box are quite reasonable, but improved by making custom profiles (see a previous post for using Profile Prism). I haven’t had it long enough yet to know how fade-resistant these inks are.
